Uranus in Capricorn: Natal Chart Meaning

When Uranus, the planet of change and revolution, enters Capricorn, the sign of structure, maturity, and isolation, we often see important structures breaking down from the inside out. It is also a time of comparative poverty to the years directly before and after.

Uranus in Astrology

Uranus takes approximately seven years to transit through each of the astrological signs and retrogrades for around 150 days every year.

Rather than being a personal element in the birth chart, Uranus is a generational element that highlights important elements likely to impact people born under its influence.

Uranus was the first planet discovered by telescope, rather than being visible with the naked eye. For this reason, it has long been associated with technology, progress, and change.

Uranus is also the only planet in our solar system that is named after one of the Greek gods, rather than one of its Roman counterparts. Uranus, or Ouranos, was one of the primordial Greek deities, older than the likes of Zeus. He is a personification of the sky and both the son and husband of Gaia, primordial mother earth. Again, this reflects Uranus’ significance on the broader landscape that surrounds us, rather than on our individual personalities.

Uranus is tilted so far on its axis that it essentially orbits the sun on its side. This non-conformity with the other celestial bodies in the universe is another characteristic that Uranus highlights.

It should be no surprise that Uranus governs the sign Aquarius, which is known for eccentricity and non-conformity, but also confidence and imagination.

Uranus Transit Through Capricorn

When Uranus transits through Capricorn, we often see greater space growing between people. This can refer to inequality, with the gap between rich and poor growing. It can also relate to ideology, for example with the gap between left and right becoming larger.

The need to compare yourself with the people around you is often strong. While this can result in conformity in some areas, it can also result in people wanting to differentiate themselves.

There tends to be a big focus on what a person does and leaving a personal legacy. Everyone is encouraged to believe that they need to leave their mark on the world, the bigger the better. Visibility of action and change is very important.

Uranus Retrograde Through Capricorn

When Uranus retrogrades for roughly five months each year, we are often called to take our foot off the accelerator a little. When Uranus is in Capricorn, we often feel like we are being judged, and that we have been found wanting.

This can fuel a period of great activity as we try and make up for our shortcomings. But it can also lead to depression and lethargy.

At this time the approach of hard work over-time which seemed to feel good for you before can become frustrating. You might find yourself drawn towards quick wins.
