Wheel of the Year 2025: Sabbats and Moon Phases

Modern pagans, spiritualists, and anyone who chooses to live close to the natural cycles of the Earth measure the passage of time via the Wheel of the Year. These are the important lunar and solar events that mark the passage of time and the changes of season. Some of these important moments in the annual cycle are associated with ancient pagan festivals.

Below is a list of some of the important days to note in the 2025 Wheel of the Year. Equinoxes are according to the northern hemisphere. You will need to invert for the southern hemisphere.

January

The year begins with Mars in retrograde from Leo to Cancer until February 23rd. This could leave you feeling like nothing is happening on the timeline you want. Use the time to decompress and organize professional goals for the year. 

3rd/4th – Annual Quadrantids meteor shower (expect to see hundreds of meteorites per hour)

6th – Triple Goddess Day

On this day, many pagans celebrate the triple goddess that is represented by the maiden, mother, and crone. They represent the divine feminine, the inevitable cycle of life, and our ability to inhabit different bodies and functions as life demands.

13th – Full Wolf Moon/Full Moon in Cancer

The full moon is considered the time when we are at our most powerful and feel most full and complete within ourselves. In the days following the moon as it wanes and shrinks, it is not considered wise to set new intentions or goals, but it can be a time to try and diminish certain things in life, such as breaking a bad habit.

18th – Day of Danu, a Celtic goddess of fertility, creation, water, and land

The day of Danu is considered a day for cleansing rituals. It is best not to touch anything unclean and wear colors that are thought of as clean, such as white.

20th – Aquarius zodiac period begins

29th – Chinese New Year, the year of the Snake

The year of the snake is considered a time for reflection, contemplation, and transformation. People born in the year are considered enigmatic, intelligent, and wise.

29th – New Moon in Aquarius

The new moon is considered the beginning of the lunar cycle and therefore the ideal time to set new intentions. These intentions then can grow and manifest over the coming months as the moon waxes and grows.

31st – Disablot, the Norse festival honoring Disir spirits and ancestors

This is a time to celebrate the ancestors who continue to watch over us as the Norse believed that we share elements of our souls with our ancestors. It is also a time of the year when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest.

February

1st/2nd – Imbolc, the pagan sabbat connected with the Celtic goddess Brigid and the return of the sun 

While the days are still cold during Imbolc, it is a time to prepare of the coming months of warmth and work. 

12th – Full Snow Moon/Full Moon in Leo

13th/15th      Lupercalia

This ancient Roman festival honoring the Wolf who suckled Romulus and Remus, the twin founders of the Roman Empire, spanned three days. The debaucherous celebration was filled with nudity, sexuality, ritual sacrifices, feasting, and games, and is thought to be the origin of modern-day Valentine’s Day.

19th – Pisces zodiac period begins

28th – New Moon in Pisces

March

Venus, the planet of money, begins retrograde in Aries and Pisces, lasting from March 1 to April 12, making matters of the heart extra complicated. Indecisiveness around love and relationships will consume our lives. 

1st – Matronalia

The ancient Roman festival of Juno, goddess of birth and fertility

14th – Full Worm Moon/Full Moon in Virgo

Full Lunar Eclipse visible in Europe, much of Asia, much of Australia, much of Africa, North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Antarctica

20th – Spring Equinox

Also called Ostara, the major spring festival in Germanic tradition linked with the fertility goddess Eostre

21st  – Aries zodiac period begins

29th – New Moon in Aries/Partial Solar Eclipse

April

1st – Veneralia

An ancient Roman holiday celebrating Venus and Fortuna, it is considered a time of good fortune, but as Caesar said, “fortune favors the bold.”

8th – Great North American Total Solar Eclipse

12th – Full Pink Moon/Full Moon in Libra

15th – Sigrblot, a Norse celebration of the first day of summer

20th – Taurus Zodiac period begins

16th-22nd – Lyrids Meteor Shower

27th – New Moon in Taurus

May

1st – Beltane, the Celtic festival celebrating the first day of summer

9th – Lemuria

An ancient Roman festival to exorcise ghosts and malevolent spirits

12th – Full Flower Moon/Full Moon in Scorpio

21st – Gemini zodiac period begins

27th – New Moon in Gemini

28th – Feast of Bendidia

An ancient Athenian festival celebrating the Thracian goddess Bendis, the Goddess of the Moon and the Underworld

June

7th/15th – Vestalia

A Roman holiday to honor the Goddess Vesta, the Goddess of the heart

11th – Full Strawberry Moon/Full Moon in Sagittarius

21st – Summer solstice, also called Litha, the midsummer celebration

21st – Cancer zodiac period begins

25th – New Moon in Cancer

July

9th – Full Sturgeon Moon/Full Moon in Aquarius

23rd – Virgo zodiac period begins
